It\u2019s the best time to plant! The warming soil encourages the plants to establish roots and begin foliage growth. Your plants will be well established when the heat of summer descends on your garden. Check out below for steps and tips to successfully planting your spring plants!<\/p>\n

Planning<\/strong>
\nPlan out your area so you have an idea of how many plants and what kind you are wanting to incorporate into your new or existing garden bed.<\/p>\n

Shopping<\/strong>
\nOne of our personal favourite steps – plant shopping<\/a>! Know your sun\/shade amount before heading into the nursery, always read the plant tag thoroughly and ask us if you have any questions!<\/p>\n

Prepare Your Soil<\/strong>
\nAdd as much organic matter to your planting area as you can. Quality soil<\/a>\u00a0with lots of organic matter creates a base that helps plants thrive. We have lots of great soils, mixes and fertilizers<\/a> too!<\/p>\n

Layout the Area<\/strong>
\nTest out your design by arranging your potted plants throughout the new or existing space. Check how it looks from multiple angles (inside and out) and watch the sun\/shade throughout the day to\u00a0confirm the best plants are in the right spots. This is a good time to water your new plants in their pots too!<\/p>\n

Get Digging!<\/strong>
\nStart by digging a planting hole that\u2019s slightly deeper than the pot the plant is in and approximately\u00a0twice as wide. Add in a handful or two of organic matter into the hole and\u00a0if the soil in the bed is dry, water the hole prior to planting.<\/p>\n

Time to Plant<\/strong>
\nRemove the plant from the pot. If roots are thick and heavily conformed to the pot shape, gently tease and break up the base of the root ball to\u00a0encourage\u00a0new roots to grow. Once you have set\u00a0the plant in the hole, position it how you want and\u00a0plant at the same depth as it was in the pot. Avoid burying the spot where roots and stems meet and gently firming the soil around your new plant. Be sure to water your new plants\u00a0regularly to help them get over transplant shock and establish themselves in their new homes.<\/p>\n

Add a Mulch Layer<\/strong>
\nTop off with a layer of\u00a0mulch<\/a>\u00a0to prevent your plants from drying out too quickly and to discourage the\u00a0weeds that compete with your garden plants for water and nutrients.<\/p>\n
