Wildflowers support ecosystems and pollinators (and us!)<\/span><\/h1>\n

Wildflowers attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies, which are responsible for so much of the food that we eat! These native flowers are the backbone of ecosystems for pollinators, beneficial insects, birds, and other small animals. Wildflowers provide seeds, nectar, pollen, and leaves as a source of food and life, especially for pollinators.<\/span><\/p>\n

The root systems of Wildflowers extend deep into the soil, storing water and nutrients while holding on to carbon that would otherwise be released into the air. Wildflowers can improve soil health, prevent erosion, and improve water quality. Wildflowers are so much more than just a pretty face! Even if you\u2019re mostly focused on growing vegetables, incorporating flowers in your garden helps bring in the pollinators, such as bees, butterflies, and even hummingbirds. Giving these pollinators an organic and flower-rich garden to feast on, and they\u2019ll visit your fruit and vegetable crops too!<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Plan Out Your Wildflower Garden: Identify the area and measure it out to see how much seed you’ll need. Plan to plant in late March to early May.<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Prepare your Soil: For the best growth, remove all existing growth and debris. Better soil preparation means more flowers!<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Sow Your Seeds: follow the coverage rate on your seed packets and try to plant when Mother Nature can help you water them!<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Help them Germinate: Good seed-to-soil contact encourages germination and healthy roots, don’t bury your wildflower seeds.<\/span><\/li>\n
  5. Water your Wildflowers: Water regularly to keep soil moist, not soaking wet, until seedlings are about 4-6 inches tall.<\/span><\/li>\n
  6. Watch them Bloom: Sprouts will start in late spring! Sit back, watch them grow and attract all the beautiful pollinators!<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
